Why Greenheart Endurance?
Strength and endurance through leadership
In 1914, Ernest Shackleton led the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, aiming to cross Antarctica. His ship, Endurance, made of resilient Greenheart wood, became trapped in pack ice for nine months in the Weddell Sea. After being crushed and sinking, Shackleton and his 27 men endured extreme conditions. Shackleton’s ability to survive and keep his crew safe for two years remains a remarkable story of heroism and leadership. Despite his bravery, Shackleton was far from perfect, making mistakes and improvising when necessary. He never asked the team to do anything he wouldn’t do himself and was adept at abandoning plans that weren’t working. On March 5, 2022, nearly 107 years after Endurance sank, it was discovered resting on the seabed, still held together by Greenheart wood. This story resonates with the feeling of being stuck and sinking without hope. True leadership is about the strength of a team and finding hidden resilience. Whilst I’m not traversing the South Pole, I am passionate about helping leaders and companies discover their strength and implement enduring plans for success.
